SIG EP BASKETBALL Sigma Phi Epsilon defeated both Theta Chi and Phi Kappa Psi on their quest for the championship. They played tough opponent Phi Kappa Theta for the championship at San Diego State's ARC facility. Sig Ep took advantage and pulled ahead for an early double digit lead due to the outstanding hustle from both starters and bench players alike. At half time the game was all tied up and it seemed as if it was anyone’s game, each team trading buckets one after the other. Key big man KC Bellefontaine fouled out with under a minute to go, but Sig Ep rallied behind Dan Ahern’s steal which lead to an easy bucket by Max Comerford. This put Sig Ep up by 4 with less than 30 seconds remaining, sealing the victory and the championship title. Coach Jon Carbaugh credits their success to key free throws at clutch moments; good offensive rebounds as well as veteran players with key leadership roles such as Derick Furuya. This exciting game caped a great season finishing 4-0-1, which opens the door to Sig Eps first sports banner since being re-chartered in 2004. |
